This is a very rare peacock opal. It is a crystal opal meaning colors can be seen from every side and the gem has high clarity. It has omnidirectional color meaning no matter how it is turned it has a amazing color, no dead spots that are common in cheap opal.
This material rates a perfect 5 in brightness and a perfect 5 in color. Peacock is the pattern; one of the rarest and most fantastical opals available. Material of this quality is rarely found even in the top Welo mines of Ethiopia where this gem was discovered, or in Australia. This is a top gem. Either for high-end jewelry or for a serious gem collector this is a worthy stone. “Like viewing a fine Impressionist painting while riding a crystal carousel.” Old Virginia Gem Company rates this a, “Top Gem.”
GEM IS SHOWN IN BRIGHT TO LOWER LIGHT. THIS GEM DISPLAYS WELL EVEN IN BRIGHT LIGHT MOST OPALS WAS OUT IN SUNLIGHT, BECOMING MORE INTENSE AS LIGHT LOWERS.
